Accessible Travel: Lithia Springs Resort, Ashland, OR

As frequent travelers to Ashland‘s Oregon Shakespeare Festival, my husband and I have stayed all over the city. By far, Lithia Springs Resort is our favorite accommodation for several reasons, starting with accessibility. I always aim to book early to get the ADA compliant room we most prefer, which is the patio bungalow (#19) located very near the outdoor pool filled with healing waters from a natural spring. There is a mobility lift near the pool.

Lithia Springs Resort serves the best hot breakfast in town, every morning cookin’ up something different. Every day between 3 and 5 PM, a super lovely afternoon tea is offered, complete with fresh baked scones or cookies, fruit, and of course an assortment of tea, all served on white china. To access the breakfast and tea rooms, and the pool, there are paved paths traversing the garden setting which are suitable for mobility devices.

The service is always friendly and accommodating in every way.

Directly across from the resort is the Bear Creek Greenway. We enjoy riding for miles along the wooded path and urban landscapes; my husband on his bike, me on my red mobility scooter.

We do not stay anywhere else anymore; we just love the place.

Making Accessibility Happen

Accessible travel for people with disabilities is becoming big business. Speak with your dollars, your vote, and your voice to let commerce know what’s working, and what’s not.
